( your ad in WATER FLYING ) GREAT ART WORK --- Sam, and I can speak from experience, as I do some Aiplane paintings ( as a hobby ) I was trained as an old fashioned "Commercial Artist") in the PRE - COMPUTER days I grew up in FT WAYNE, a few miles south of here. The original city airport is named SMITH FIELD after ART SMITH, a famous early aviator. As a 6 or 7 year old, I can remember UNITED or AMERICAN DC - 3's flying passengers into that field. It has one of the very first modern hangers constructed ( with the big doors that roll in tracks ) It had, until very recently, one of the few EARLY runways built before planes had brakes --- it sloped upward as you neared the center of the field, to help slow down the plane while landing. Sadly, the authorities permitted housing,etc to be built way too close to the field, thinking they would be able to sell the field to a housing developer, since the city had a more modern airport on its south edge. But public outcry saved the field, and it still has a FBO and a flying school, etc. I saw some very interesting airshows there in the 60's ---- A very famous high ranking WW 2 and Korean ace named BUD MAHURIN grew up in FT WAYNE --- I notice you also like classic cars. Auburn, the home of the famous AUBURN,CORD, and DUSENBERG factory, and headquarters, ( now a world famous museum ) has a well attended festival for owners of those cars every Labor Day weekend peace ken

SAM I purchased print #1 huey in viet nam several years ago in reno.I almost had to beg you to get #1 but important to me as a huey crew. I always get WOW comments from anyone who sees it. Hey Sam, you were my football coach at Woodward Academy. I didn't get along with Coach Bowers because he never played me. I have two retirements behind me one as a Navy Diver 24 years, and the other in the steel business. I have followed your career, and you are truly a great artist. My father in law a retired Delta pilot, and Navy pilot has a painting of every plane he ever flew behind his desk painted in oil, 14 planes in all, and it was such a huge undertaking the artist said he would nwever attempt it again. Sir, i am not sure that the B-25J model 6L was the Cowtown Avenger, in fact she was the Rinkee Doo. 43-27639 The aicraft was in the 340th BG 486th BS at Alesan in Corsica France. The 6L Cowtown Avenger was a B-25D, she served in Africa and was the 41-30101. If you are interested, I could send you two photos of the different airplanes.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sam by driving crosscountry with his cub frame attached to the roof of a car. The car was on a trailer and it looked quite strange.
