NEW CUB ON FLOATS
Click Here for Product Details!SO NEW IT HASN’T BEEN NAMED YET! Reaction to this print has been so positive we didn’t want to wait any longer to put it on the website. This incredibly life-like scene with a very pretty Cub on floats will be named after EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 26 – August 1). We’re holding a “Name the Painting” contest at the Lyons Studio booth in Building B, Booth 2028. Even without a name, can you hear the call of the birds and the gentle whoosh of their wings? Do you feel the heaviness of the Florida air? Take a breath … can you smell the slightly musky, earthy scent of the lush tropical greenery? And how about the gator? Can you spot her? (We’ll warn you; she’s hungry.) That’s the view Sam and Mindy have from their Lakeland backyard. Unfortunately a gorgeous Cub float plane does not sit by their dock. They don’t even have a dock … yet. But that’s the beauty of artistic license. A scene doesn’t really have to exist in order for Sam to paint it. Just so you know, Sam can Remarque this print with your N# or personalize other features of the plane (like cowling, exhaust, rudder, etc.) for a charge. Call the studio (800-544-4992)for more info. The 16” x 20” prints are available in a Limited Edition size of 300 Signed & Numbered; 30 Artist Proofs; and 25 Giclee Prints on Canvas. If framed, it will consist of double mats, Cub patches, plaque, and a wood frame.

"Racing for Home" is sure to be another Cub classic by Sam. It has all the elements of a favorite, including Cub, '51 Chevy truck and old-fashioned barn.

Racing for Home
Click Here for Product Details!AUGUST 2009 RELEASE! As with most of Sam's pictures, “Racing for Home” has an entertaining story behind its creation. The idea for the piece began 15 years ago when he did a sketch on a restaurant napkin. The quick sketch went into his idea file and there it sat. Fast forward to 2009. One of Sam's most loyal customers was due for his yearly commission. Buddy Stallings is head of Eastern Aviation Fuels, the nationwide distributor for Shell aviation products. He wanted to feature a Cub in this year's original painting so Sam put on his thinking cap and pulled out his idea file. That's how “Racing for Home” came to life. The pretty yellow Piper Cub is heading in the same direction as the 1951 Chevy truck (which is actually Sam's truck) and their destination is the old-fashioned red barn and grass strip up the road. The 22” x 17.5” prints are available in a Limited Edition size of 300 Signed & Numbered and 30 Artist Proofs. The 25 Framed Giclee Prints on Canvas have an image size of 21.25” x 17.” If paper prints are framed, it will consist of double mats, Cub patches, plaque, and a medium brown wood frame with subtle variations.

"J3 Morning" is another incredible Cub picture by Sam. This one captured the audience at Sun 'n Fun 2009 when it was unveiled.

J3 Morning

This print was named through a “Name the Painting” contest held at Sun 'n Fun 2009 where the original was unveiled. You'll be captivated by the playful shadows and slightly magical mood. "Read Back Correct" was commissioned by the Air Traffic Control Association and puts you inside a control tower. It's a unique perspective of a crucial aviation job.

Read Back Correct
Click Here for Product Details!SAM'S FIRST CONTROL TOWER VIEW! The Air Traffic Control Association commissioned Sam to paint an original that honors the men and women who keep airplanes flying safe. That was the start of “Read Back Correct.” The name of the print is a phrase heard by every pilot flying IFR out of any airport in the country. The view – from inside a control tower -- is one you seldom see in a print. Wherever you look there are unexpected details to discover. The Dekalb Peachtree Airport in Atlanta was used for reference by Sam. The folks at PDK were more than gracious in giving Sam access so he could make the painting as accurate as possible. He did take artistic license with the female controller; that's his wife Mindy with the binoculars. The original hangs in ATCA headquarters in Alexandria, Va. The 15” x 22.5” prints are available in a Limited Edition size of 300 Signed & Numbered. If framed, it will consist of double mats, plaque, and a black wood beaded frame.
